Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CET and CEST?
CET (Central European Time) is UTC+1 and applies during the winter months. CEST (Central European Summer Time) is UTC+2 and applies during summer when daylight saving time is in effect. The switch occurs on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October.
How many countries use CET?
Approximately 30 countries across Europe and parts of North Africa use CET/CEST, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, and Sweden. This makes CET the most widely shared civil time zone in Europe.
Does CET change with daylight saving time?
Yes. Countries in the CET zone switch to CEST (UTC+2) on the last Sunday of March and return to CET (UTC+1) on the last Sunday of October. All EU member states make the transition at the same absolute moment: 1:00 AM UTC.
